Bekah - Class of 2012I had the distinct pleasure of shooting Bekah's senior photos last fall. I know, I've procrastinated way too long blogging the shoot. Bekah's from the Edmond area of the great state of Oklahoma and trekked all the way down to Houston for her senior shoot. I was so grateful she made the trip down as I had a location that I've been wanting to shoot at for a long time and she was totally willing to give it a try. I've known Bekah's family for a few years and I was thrilled that she wanted me to do her senior shots. With her being a photographer herself it was great that she understood the desire to experiment and get some edgy shots. We first did some shots in a tunnel we found at the location. Of course, being in Houston you can always count on some graffitti.
This was a favorite location of mine during the day. I'm not exactly sure what the building in the background is but it made for some interesting shots.
We had some really nice side lighting coming into the shot.
Another fav of mine from the day.
Bekah knew she wanted to include Arkansas in the shoot somehow. So why not a Razorback jersey?
Bekah had a cool hat with her that she wanted to incorporate into the shoot. Great look.
Last change of clothes and another change of location.
Back to the graffiti tunnel for some final shots.
Looking off into the sunset and a bright future.
It was a great day of shooting and a great subject indeed. Bekah was game for just about anything and didn't get tired of shooting. We pretty much burned all the daylight. Evening Mountain ViewsAfter a day or two in Windermere, BC I realized I wanted a shot of the area hills when the sun was going down and the light was right. One thing about British Columbia at the end of May, sunset was A LOT later than it is in Houston, TX. In this case I didn't even have to start my trek to this view until about 9:15 pm to capture the golden light. To be fair this vista was only about a 10 minute walk from the cabin where we were staying. The shot was made standing just a few yards (Or should I say meters since I was in Canada?) off Kootenay Highway (95) near Akiskinook Rd. This area had so many vistas it was hard to not get a good shot that time of the evening. This was one of may favorites.
Canoes going nowhere at Lake LouiseI was at Lake Louise in Banff NP, Alberta, Canada last month when I came upon this scene. First, I was surprised when I arrived at the lake that it was still somewhat frozen. I suppose living in Houston make us oblivious to the fact that it's still cold in a big part of the world in the month of May. I like this scene because of the irony of the canoes being lined up and ready to go...nowhere. The contrast of the cloudy, muted colors of the scene against the bright red canoes also caught my eye. Lastly, there were probably 300+ people around the lake at this time. I was happy to capture the shot in a way that makes it look remote and isolated.
Southwestern Florida "Business" Trip - April 2012I was really excited back in February to find out that I was going to St. Petersburg, Florida in April. I've been to the city twice before but just for quick two day trips. This time I was able to add a few days on the trip and do some sightseeing. My plans included an airboat ride in the Everglades, various shots in the city around the hotel, and Ft. Desoto State Park. My hotel for the first part of the trip was the Vinoy Renaissance St. Petersburg Resort & Golf Club. What a fabulous hotel! Here's an early mourning shot from the park across the street.
I'm pretty sure this isn't native to South Florida but interesting to see.
The fort itself is pretty cool and some of the old guns are still there for preservation. These are 12 inch rifled mortars.
Marymere Falls in Black and WhiteHere's a shot of Marymere Falls in Olympic National Park, WA. A .9 mile hike from King Storm Ranger Station along with a 400 foot rise rewards you with this view.
